Dongin-dong Jjim-galbi Alley 동인동 찜갈비골목

Daegu, Seoul · 35.8711, 128.6050

An alley of roughly ten decades-old restaurants serving Daegu's signature braised beef ribs in a fiery garlic-and-chili sauce, cooked and served in dented aluminum basins that haven't changed since the 1960s. Order by the portion, ask for your spice level, and finish the meal the local way — mixing rice straight into the leftover sauce in the basin. It sits in Dongin-dong near Daegu City Hall, a short taxi ride or walk from the downtown core, and dinner is when the alley comes alive.

Local context

This is nothing like the sweet soy-based galbijjim found in Seoul — first-timers should say 'less spicy' (deol maepge), because the default heat is serious. Locals judge the restaurants as interchangeable in quality and simply return to whichever one their family has always used.
