NadeDaegwallyeong Old Road 대관령 옛길
The old foot road over the Daegwallyeong pass that Joseon-era scholars walked to reach the capital for state exams and peddlers crossed with loads of dried fish. Today it is Baugil Course 2: from the Banjeong ridge point it descends about six kilometers through pine and oak forest, past a reconstructed jumak (wayside tavern) and along a stream, ending near the Daegwallyeong Museum. The grade is gentle enough for first-time hikers if walked downhill.
Local context
The local trick is to take a taxi or bus up to the Banjeong trailhead and walk only the downhill half; late October, when the oaks turn, is when Gangneung hikers themselves come.
