Dongmun Public Market 동문공설시장

The quieter municipal wing of the Dongmun market complex, where butcher counters, vegetable stalls, and dry-goods shops serve islanders doing their weekly shopping. Tucked between the stalls are gukbap and noodle diners that have fed market workers since the 1970s, most without an English menu. Step over from the tourist arcade and the crowd changes completely.
Local context
Follow the market workers at lunchtime into the old diners — pointing at a neighbor's bowl works fine, and you'll eat what porters and stallkeepers have ordered for fifty years.
