A small waterfront museum about Hendrick Hamel, the shipwrecked Dutch sailor who spent his final Korean years in Yeosu before escaping to Japan in 1666 and writing the first Western account of Korea. Browse the compact exhibits on his crew's thirteen years of captivity, then walk out along the old-harbor breakwater to the little red lighthouse named after him. Come in the early evening: the exhibition sits right beside the Romantic Pocha street, and from the breakwater you get the cable car and bridge lights across the water.

Even most Koreans strolling the pocha street don't walk the breakwater to the lighthouse, so it stays quiet at sunset; the Hamel story lands especially well with European visitors, since he was effectively the first Westerner to describe Korea to the outside world.
