Korea's largest single-story wooden hall and Yeosu's only National Treasure, built in 1599 on the site of Admiral Yi Sun-sin's naval headquarters during the Japanese invasions. The hall reopened in May 2025 after roughly a decade under restoration scaffolding, so you can once again walk beneath its forest of massive wooden columns and look down over the old harbor the fleet once guarded. It stands right above the old downtown, an easy walk from the Yeosu waterfront and fish markets.

Local context

Because it spent about ten years hidden behind construction covers, even many recent Korean visitors haven't seen it open — it effectively vanished from travel information and is only now returning to itineraries. Go late afternoon when the light rakes across the columns and the harbor view is clearest.
