Jimibong Oreum 지미봉

Jeju, Seoul · 33.4993, 126.9024

A steep little volcanic cone at the island's eastern land's end — the name means something like 'the tail of the land' — climbed in roughly 30 minutes of stairs. The summit lines up Udo island, Seongsan Ilchulbong and a quilt of carrot fields in a single frame, making it the classic local answer to seeing Ilchulbong rather than standing on it.

Local context

Locals climb here for sunrise instead of queueing at Ilchulbong — from this summit the sun comes up between Udo and Seongsan. The trail is short but the stairs are relentless, so carry water and give yourself headlamp time in the dark.
