NadeRoyal Tomb of King Wonseong 원성왕릉
This late-8th-century royal tomb, known to Koreans as Gwaeneung, keeps the most complete set of stone guardians of any Silla grave: lions, civil officials, and two burly warrior figures with deep-set eyes and heavy beards. Scholars read those faces as Central Asian, making the avenue of statues physical evidence that Silk Road exchange reached the far end of the peninsula. It sits among pines in Oedong-eup, south of the city center.
Local context
Domestic heritage enthusiasts treat Gwaeneung as a pilgrimage stop, but it is almost unknown to foreign visitors, so you will usually have the statue-lined approach to yourself.
