Bonghwangdae Mound 봉황대
Bonghwangdae is the largest single burial mound in Gyeongju, and mature trees grow straight out of the tumulus, giving it the look of a small forested hill dropped into the city. The mound clusters around it in Nodong and Noseo-dong are free and open around the clock, with landscape lighting after dark. From May to August a free outdoor concert series sets up at its foot on Friday evenings.
Local context
Most visitors pay for Daereungwon across the street and leave, but many locals think the lit mounds on this free side make the better evening walk; the Friday 8pm Bonghwangdae Music Square runs May through August with a midsummer break.
