A restored stretch of town wall and its rebuilt east gate, Hyangilmun, show the walled city that governed Gyeongju through the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties — the thousand years that came after Silla. The ramparts sit right in the downtown grid and are floodlit after dark, when almost nobody is around. It is a short walk rather than a full outing, easily added to an evening downtown.

Local context

Foreign-language guides stop almost entirely at the Silla era, so even travelers sleeping two blocks away walk past it; locals mostly know it as a lit-up evening stroll.
