A domed hall was built directly over Tomb No. 44 in the Jjoksaem district so the public can watch a real Silla tomb excavation from a glass-sided walkway above the dig. The grave below is believed to belong to a young girl of the Silla elite, buried with gilt-bronze ornaments and armor pieces uncovered layer by layer. Entry is free, roughly 10:00 to 17:00 with a midday break, and it stays quiet despite being minutes from Daereungwon.
Local context
A cultural docent is usually stationed inside to explain the finds from Tomb No. 44, and the surrounding Jjoksaem alleys still show traces of the low houses that sat on top of the tombs until recently.
