Gueom Stone Salt Fields 구엄리 돌염전
Flat sheets of shoreline basalt where Gueom villagers evaporated seawater into salt for roughly 300 years, from the Joseon era into the mid-20th century — the only stone salt pans of their kind in Korea. A restored section shows the low clay ridges that once divided the evaporation beds, with panels explaining the process. The site is free, always open, and sits right on Olle Route 16.
Local context
Villagers called the pans sogeum-billae, billae being Jeju dialect for a wide flat rock; local photographers come at sunset when the wet pans mirror the sky.
