Na Hye-seok Street & Ingye-dong 나혜석거리·인계동 먹자골목

Suwon, Seoul · 37.2639, 127.0347

A pedestrian street named for Na Hye-seok, Korea's first female Western-style painter — her statue stands mid-street — surrounded by Ingye-dong's dense grid of tent-style pocha bars, grill houses, and hof pubs. Come after 8pm on a weeknight to see Suwon's office workers unwind, hopping from grilled pork to a second-round beer at the outdoor tables. It sits in the city's modern downtown, a short taxi ride from the Hwaseong Fortress area where most visitors stay.

Local context

Locals treat the statue street as the meeting point and then scatter into the side alleys, which stay loud well past midnight on Fridays. Almost no menus are in English, so pointing at the next table's order is a legitimate strategy.
