NadePaldalsan Seojangdae 팔달산 서장대
The fortress command post crowning Paldalsan hill, about a twenty-minute uphill walk from Hwaseong Haenggung Palace, with the best free panorama over Suwon's walled old town. Time your climb for half an hour before sunset, then stay as the fortress ring and the city grid light up below — the wall itself is illuminated at night. The paths are paved and gentle enough for anyone comfortable with a steady incline.
Local context
Plenty of visitors walk the fortress wall at ground level, but few climb to Seojangdae, and fewer still at night — evening up here belongs to local walkers doing their daily loop. King Jeongjo once commanded troop drills from this pavilion, which is why it faces the whole fortress at once.
