NadeOreung Royal Tombs 오릉

Five turf-covered mounds attributed to Silla's founding king Bak Hyeokgeose and his earliest successors sit inside a low wall, in a park of old pines and willows on the southern edge of downtown Gyeongju. Legend holds that the founder's remains fell from the sky in five parts and a great snake stopped anyone from burying them together — hence five separate tombs and the old name 'Snake Mound'.
Local context
It is a fifteen-minute walk from the Daereungwon crowds yet sees almost none of them; Gyeongju residents use the pine park for slow evening strolls, and the Sungdeokjeon shrine at the back opens for ancestral rites a few times a year.
