Gameunsa Temple Site 감은사지
Two 13-meter, three-story stone pagodas — both National Treasures — are all that stands of a temple King Sinmun completed in 682 for his father Munmu, who was buried at sea to become a guardian dragon. Among the foundation stones you can still trace the channel built so the dragon could swim in from the coast and rest beneath the main hall; the site is unfenced, free and open at all hours.
Local context
Photographers come in the last hour before sunset, when the pagodas glow and throw long shadows across the empty field; Munmu's sea tomb and the Igyeondae pavilion are minutes away on the same road.
