NadeHwangseong Park 황성공원

This sprawling pine forest north of downtown is Gyeongju's everyday park, where residents jog the dirt paths, walk dogs, and practice traditional Korean archery at the range inside the woods. Tradition holds that Silla's hwarang warriors trained in this forest. In August the ground under the pines turns purple with one of the country's largest plantings of lilyturf, and entry is free year-round.
Local context
The lilyturf peaks in mid-to-late August, when photographers arrive at dawn to catch light shafts through the trunks; the rest of the year you will mostly share the paths with joggers and archers.
