Museum of Korea Emigration History 한국이민사박물관
Photos: Wikimedia Commons / community
A free museum at the foot of Wolmi Park telling the story of the first Korean emigrants, who sailed from this very port to Hawaii's sugar plantations in 1902. Recreated ship cabins, period passports and handwritten letters make the diaspora story tangible, and the exhibits carry decent English captions. It works well combined with the Wolmi Observatory hill behind it, away from the amusement-ride strip on the waterfront.
Local context
Most Wolmido visitors never walk the extra five minutes past the amusement park to find it, so the halls are usually near-empty. Korean-American visitors sometimes come to trace family history, and staff-led tours run on a regular schedule if you ask at the desk.
