NadeOksanseowon Confucian Academy 옥산서원

A Confucian academy founded in 1572 to honor the scholar Yi Eon-jeok, and one of the nine seowon inscribed by UNESCO in 2019. Right outside its gate the Jagye stream flattens into wide rock slabs called Sesimdae below a low waterfall, where students once cooled off between lessons. The lecture halls are worth a slow walk, but the streamside slabs are what people actually linger on.
Local context
On summer weekends Angang families spread mats on the Sesimdae slabs with watermelon in the water; on a weekday morning you may have the whole stream to yourself.
