Busan Fireworks Festival부산불꽃축제

The Busan Fireworks Festival was never planned as an annual event. In November 2005, Busan hosted the APEC summit, and the city staged a massive fireworks display at Gwangalli Beach to welcome the visiting world leaders. The show was so popular with residents that Busan simply kept doing it — and two decades on, it marked its 20th edition in 2025 as one of Korea's largest fireworks festivals. What makes it special is the stage itself. Fireworks are launched from barges in the water and from Gwangan Bridge, the double-deck suspension bridge that arcs across the bay. From the curved beach, you see fire in the sky, the illuminated bridge, the reflections on the water, and the high-rises of Marine City in a single frame — a composition few fireworks venues anywhere can match. The event draws enormous crowds, with the beach filling up hours before the first launch. Locals treat spot-hunting as part of the ritual: some arrive in the morning with mats and fried chicken, others book restaurant windows or paid seats months ahead. It is a very Busan experience — loud, generous, a little chaotic, and set against the sea that defines the city.
