Dongincheon Samchi (Grilled Mackerel) Alley 동인천 삼치거리

Incheon, Seoul · 37.4760, 126.6288

Korea's only alley specializing in grilled samchi (Spanish mackerel): a cluster of retro taverns near Dongincheon Station where a huge plate of crispy-edged grilled fish costs little and is meant to be paired with a kettle of makgeolli. The formula has barely changed since the 1960s — plastic stools, hand-written menus, and regulars who have been coming for decades. Come in the evening when the alley fills with after-work drinkers, then walk it off through the old downtown toward Sinpo Market.

Local context

This is drinking food, not a meal stop — locals order one samchi plate per two or three people and keep the makgeolli flowing. Weeknights are the authentic scene; a few houses close early on Sundays.
