Omokdae Pavilion 오목대

A ten-minute stair climb from the hanok village ends at the pavilion where Yi Seong-gye, founder of the Joseon dynasty, is said to have feasted after defeating Japanese pirates in 1380. The real draw is the terrace: hundreds of tiled hanok roofs spread below, with the red-brick spire of Jeondong Cathedral rising out of them. The half hour around sunset, when the roofs turn grey-blue and the lanterns come on, is the time to be there.

Instead of retracing your steps, take the pedestrian overpass on the far side straight into Jaman Mural Village — most visitors never realize the two connect.
