Samcheondong Makgeolli Alley 삼천동 막걸리골목

Jeonju, Seoul · 35.8019, 127.1348

In this alley in Jeonju's southwestern Samcheon-dong, one kettle of makgeolli comes with a full spread of side dishes at no extra charge — steamed shellfish, savory jeon pancakes, seasonal vegetables, whatever the kitchen prepared that day. Each additional kettle brings a fresh round of different dishes. It is the original of Jeonju's makgeolli alleys and is designated as part of the city's 'future heritage.'

Local context

Locals come in groups of three or four because the side-dish spread is scaled for a table, and the bill is effectively just the kettles. Kitchens wind down early on weekdays, so arrive before 9 pm.
