Andong Soju Museum 안동소주박물관
A free museum attached to the distillery founded by the late master brewer Jo Ok-hwa, whose family still produces 45-percent Andong soju as holders of the provincial intangible cultural heritage designation. Exhibits trace roughly 700 years of distilling — clay stills, brewing tools and ceremonial table settings — and finish with a complimentary tasting of a spirit entirely unlike the green-bottle soju sold in convenience stores.
Local context
Sip it slowly like a whisky rather than shooting it — at 45 percent it rewards that — and note the museum sits across the river from downtown, so pair it with a taxi ride before dinner at the jjimdak alley.
