NadeByeongsan Seowon 병산서원
A Confucian academy honoring the scholar-statesman Ryu Seong-ryong, one of the nine seowon inscribed by UNESCO in 2019. Its long open pavilion, Mandaeru, frames the cliff and river outside like a scroll painting — the clearest example of 'borrowed scenery' in Korean architecture. The unpaved access road keeps tour buses away, and the crape myrtles around the courtyard bloom deep pink in July and August.
Local context
The dirt road in is exactly what keeps this place quiet — locals just drive it slowly, or walk the roughly four-kilometer riverside footpath over from Hahoe if they have a couple of hours to spare.
